Background

Wycombe Business Expo

Wycombe Expo 2011 is a not-for-profit B2B event, aimed at showcasing Wycombe District (including Marlow, Bourne End, Princes Risborough as well as High Wycombe)as a great place to do business. October 28th 2011 was the second time that Wycombe Business Expo Ltd (a group of local entrepreneurs) have run this event, and we had 55 exhibitors with over 650 people coming through the door.

Runner up in the Innovative Enterprise category of the 2011 Buckinghamshire Business Ambassadors Awards

The day was reported on pages 7 and 8 in the November 2011 edition of the Bucks Free Press supplement Talking Business.

The Expo, a unique event organised by local entrepreneurs for local entrepreneurs, is the only one of its kind in Buckinghamshire. In 2010 we aimed to ‘start the business conversation’ without the hard sell and in 2011 we aimed to continue that discussion as relationships developed and offered real local opportunities to do business in Wycombe, Bucks and beyond!

The Expo Team were recognised for their efforts at the 2011 Buckinghamshire Business Ambassador Awards as Runners-Up in the Innovative Enterprise category. This was a fantastic springboard for us and we will continue to innovate to build on the Expo's success.

We ran a full programme of business seminars during the day at Wycombe Business Expo 2011 reflecting our theme of business continuity. Local MPs Steve Baker and Dominic Grieve attended to meet local business people for Q&A sessions, and remained to visit the exhibition. We received a message of support from the Speaker John Bercow, another constituency MP. This year, James Elles, Thames Valley MEP attended and took part in a discussion about European issues which are extremely relevant at the moment.

Bass-FX Djs

The day ended with a party at The Crowne Plaza in Marlow, with music provided by local disco company BassFX.

Wycombe Expo 2011 was heavily promoted by our media partner, the Bucks Free Press, with articles in the monthly Talking Business Supplement and weekly advertisements.

See pages 7, 13 and 15 of the July 2011 edition of Talking Business for articles about Wycombe Expo 2011 and the post-Expo party.

The October 2011 edition of Talking Business contained the programme for the Expo on the front and back pages and in the centre-spread.

We also used the power of local business networking groups to spread the word about the Expo. The High Wycombe Connections Club held its October 2011 meeting at the Expo, and Handy Croissant and Cross Reference had a joint breakfast meeting. Business Biscotti had a networking jamboree all morning.

We were again supported by The Federation of Small Businesses who promoted the Expo to 800+members in Wycombe District and over 2,500 in Buckinghamshire.

Sponsorship

Bucks Business First

A key sponsor of this Wycombe Expo 2011 is Bucks Business First (BBF) and we are looking forward to working with them to maximise the benefits that they obtain from the Expo. We are delighted that the Expo has been chosen as the first key business event to receive funding from them. Retaining the status of ‘Entrepreneurial Heart of the UK’ is a key objective of BBF and its partnership with the Expo Team is a strong practical example of the business community working with BBF to achieve our shared goal: sustainable local business growth.

We were delighted that Wycombe District Council, who were main sponsors in 2010, were able to sponsor Wycombe Expo 2011.

Lawrance Rose provided the catering again this year and sponsored coupons for up to 4 complimentary teas or coffees for each exhibition stand.

Some Feedback from 2011 Exhibitors

"After the resounding success of the Expo last friday, I am writing to thank you for visiting our stand and discussing your business requirements. We found it a hugely successful day and not only have we already forged new business relationships but have since been able to refer business on to exhibitors that attended the event." Clive Willson, B-Legal

"We would like to say a big thank you to all those who supported us in the run up and during this year’s WBE event. We look forward to hearing from all of those who kindly visited us and hope to see you again at the next WBE 2012." The Adbar
