Background

Wycombe Business Expo 2012

Wycombe Business Expo 2012 took place on 2nd November 2012. Make Our Day Events is a founder and organiser of this event, the most important business to business event in Wycombe District, which includes Marlow, Princes Risborough and Bourne End.

The Expo is a not-for-profit event run by Wycombe Business Expo Ltd, a not-for-profit company, composed of local entrepreneurs from Urban Media, Make Our Day Events and Partnership Working Ltd.

A high impact event

2012 saw the 3rd annual Expo. 450 visitors came to start the business conversation with local businesses at the inaugural Expo in 2010 and in 2011 the number of visitors increased to 650. Visitor numbers fell slightly in 2012 but the quality of visitors improved - Wycombe Business Expo is now an established event in the Wycombe District business calendar and has been recogised as a high impact event by Global Entrepreneurship Week.

We are already planning the 2013 Wycombe Business Expo. Contact us for more information or visit the Wycombe Business Expo website.

At Wycombe Business Expo 2012 we aimed to build on the success of the previous two Expos and to widen the spread of companies taking part in the exhibition. We succeeded in this - for instance, our exhibitors in 2012 included two banks and a car fleet management company. And we were very pleased to welcome the Openreach show van to the Expo car park: they were demonstrating the plans for the roll-out of fibre-optic based internet in Buckinghamshire.

Our main sponsors for 2012 were Wycombe District Council and Buckinghamshire Business First. They were joined by bank Lloyds TSB Commercial.

We had a full programme of seminars on the Wycombe Business Expo 2012 theme of 'Future-proofing your Business' and a Question-Time style event. Originally John Bercow, one of our local MPs as well as Speaker of the House of Commons, had agreed to chair the Question Time event, but he had to withdraw at the last minute for family reasons. However we were very happy that Patrict Ashburner, owner of MarlowFM, agreed to step in and take over the role. There is more information on the Wycombe Business Expo website.

Peachy PR won the award for bring most visitors to the event by issuing priority passes

Our media partner for Wycombe Business Expo 2012 was the Talking Business supplement of the Bucks Free Press. We received coverage about the development of the Expo in every edition from the start of 2012 up until the Expo itself. There was a special pre-Expo edition of Talking Business in October, just before the Expo, and there was a 4-page report about the Expo in the November edition.

We also carried out leafleting and telesales campaigns among local businesses, and had a full programme of social media promotion.

Exhibitors had the opportunity to invite their own contacts by sending them Expo priority passes. PeachyPR had the most visitors using these passes.

Some Feedback from 2012 Exhibitors

Wycombe Business Expo 2012

"As a small business working with local companies, such as Something Graphic Design, RES Lighting and Risborough Service Centre Ltd, it is so important to me to get out to events such as the Wycombe Business Expo to network and build contacts, as well as encouraging clients to do the same. The Wycombe Expo is a great platform to make the connections that aid the growth of SMEs like Peachy PR and many of the businesses we work with.

I do believe that the Expo is getting stronger year on year and, having also exhibited last year, I feel that exhibiting is a valuable addition to the marketing strategy for any local business. I am so pleased that Peachy Pr was able to play a small part in the success of the 2012 Wycombe Business Expo." Fiona Pain, Peachy PR

"As a passionate supporter of SMEs, our objective is to help them grow through the power of social media. My reason for visiting {the Expo] was to talk to like-minded companies to see if there were opportunities of working in partnership - a key benefit for a small business. The interesting mix of friendly sponsors definitely allowed me to connect very positively with many of them. I look forward to being part of that community next November." Anne Curtis, Media Train
