What kind of bride hires a Wedding Planner?

We believe that hiring a Wedding Planner in the UK is not only for the rich and famous, but for anyone who needs relief from the stresses of organising their wedding. Indeed, the majority of brides who ask Make Our Day Events for help have time-consuming careers which leave little space for the additional effort needed to put the arrangements in place for their own marriage.

But have you ever wondered what kind of UK bride hires a planner? The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners decided to do some research into just this question. Their survey in April 2011 uncovered some interesting results when they asked their members to answer some questions about their clients and the kind of assistance that they were asked to provide.

Budget is not the only consideration

With the average cost of a white wedding coming in at around £20,000 at the time of the survey, it was clear that budget is not the only thing that encourages a bride to look for help from a wedding organiser. A quarter of the brides that hired a planner had a total budget for their wedding of less than £20,000 - showing that it's not only the rich and famous who benefit from these services. More than half of the brides had a total budget of less than £30,000.

A wedding can be a complex event to organise. Just over half of the brides had between 5 and 10 suppliers involved in their wedding. This includes the planner, whose job involves making sure that every supplier plays their part in making the day perfect. The most common supplier needs dealt with by planners are venues, photographers and caterers.

Nearly 90% of the weddings covered by the answers to the survey had 150 guests or fewer. By far the most popular size of wedding was for 100-150 guests, almost two thirds of them. Even brides with average-sized weddings appreciate the relief of knowing that there is a Wedding Organiser on hand to make sure that everything runs smoothly.

A wide variety of venues

And Wedding Planners help with weddings in a variety of venues. The most common are manor/country houses and hotels, who may have their own on-site wedding co-ordinator. A good planner will work with the venue, ensuring that her client's interests are represented and making all the checks that would otherwise need to be carried out by a member of the wedding party. And a planner is invaluable in managing the complexities of a marquee reception: the third most common type of wedding for which a planner is hired.

What our clients say

"Just wanted to write to say a big thank-you for everything you (and Rena) did to make our wedding day run smoothly. Your consultation and thoroughness gave me, and in turn Jordi, peace of mind both before and on the day itself. With your help everything came together beautifully, you even identified some discrepencies B4 the day so we could smooth out and align expectations. Thanks again Jenny and Rena."

"You were such a great reassurance (especially to the bride)! We really appreciated that you were not only so highly efficient, but also extremely understanding of the pressures we were under."

"to have someone calm and organised like Jenny ... was an absolute god-send"
